Wipro Elite NTH Aptitude Test: Format, Essay and Coding
Wipro Elite National Talent Hunt (NTH) is Wipro's national hiring programme for newly graduating engineers, and its online assessment combines an aptitude test (verbal, analytical and quantitative), a short written essay and coding. Candidates who clear it move to a business discussion round, then a letter of intent and an offer. Below is what Wipro has published about the process, how to prepare for each part, and eight solved questions at Elite NTH level.
What Elite NTH is
Wipro describes Elite as a programme that "seeks to attract the brightest and newly engineering graduates from across the country", with training on new technologies and early exposure to client work. The National Talent Hunt is the hiring drive behind it: open nationally, run off campus, with registration and assessments in batches.
Unlike a college-specific campus drive, Elite NTH lets you apply regardless of which college you attend, which is why it is popular with students whose campuses get few IT services recruiters.
A word on dates: Wipro publishes the full terms in a notice for each cycle. The most recent notice we could verify in full was for NTH 2023 (2023 passing batch). The process below comes from that notice. Wipro's career site currently describes the Elite programme without the drive-level detail, so confirm everything against the notice for your own batch when registration opens.

The selection process, step by step
- Registration. A simple online form for the NTH cycle.
- Online assessment. Eligible candidates are invited in batches.
- Business discussion. If you clear the assessment, you meet the Wipro team for what is effectively a combined technical and HR interview.
- Letter of intent, then offer letter.
For NTH 2023, the role was Project Engineer with a joining compensation of INR 3,50,000, plus tenure-based performance bonuses at 6, 18, 24 and 36 months. Treat those figures as historical: check the notice for your cycle.
The online assessment
Wipro's notice described the test as an "80-minute online assessment that will test your verbal, analytical, quantitative and written communication skills", followed by coding. Wipro did not publish a per-section breakdown in that notice. Candidate reports from recent cycles describe the parts roughly like this:
| Part | What candidates report |
|---|---|
| Aptitude | Quantitative, logical/analytical and verbal questions, each with its own timer |
| Written communication | A short essay on a given topic, typed in a text box |
| Coding | Usually two programming problems, with a choice of common languages such as C, C++, Java or Python |
Since the counts and timings in candidate reports vary between cycles, use them only to get a feel for the balance. The skills tested are what Wipro itself lists, and those stay stable.
The essay: the part most engineers under-prepare
The written communication part is where many technically strong candidates lose easy marks. You get a topic (reports mention themes such as technology and society, remote work or the environment) and a word range. What scorers look for is simple:
- A clear structure. Introduction with your position, two or three body paragraphs with one point each, and a short closing paragraph.
- Clean grammar. Agreement, articles and tense consistency. Spell check may not be available.
- Staying on topic. Answer the question that was set, not the one you prepared.
- Respecting the word range. Too short looks unfinished; far too long eats into your coding time if the timer is shared.
Practise five or six essays of about 200 to 250 words before the test, timed at 15 to 20 minutes each. Read them back aloud and you will catch most of your own errors.
Wipro Elite NTH practice questions
These eight questions cover the aptitude part. Aim for about a minute each.
Question 1 (Quantitative)
A train 240 metres long passes a signal pole in 12 seconds. What is its speed in km/h?
- A) 60 km/h
- B) 72 km/h
- C) 80 km/h
- D) 86.4 km/h
Answer: B. Speed = 240 / 12 = 20 m/s. Convert by multiplying by 18/5: 20 × 18/5 = 72 km/h.
Question 2 (Quantitative)
If A : B = 3 : 4 and B : C = 6 : 5, what is A : B : C?
- A) 9 : 12 : 10
- B) 3 : 4 : 5
- C) 18 : 24 : 25
- D) 9 : 12 : 15
Answer: A. Make B the same in both ratios. Scale the first by 3 (9 : 12) and the second by 2 (12 : 10). So A : B : C = 9 : 12 : 10.
Question 3 (Quantitative)
Six people complete a job in 10 days. Working at the same rate, how many days would 15 people take?
- A) 4 days
- B) 5 days
- C) 6 days
- D) 25 days
Answer: A. The job is 6 × 10 = 60 person-days. 60 / 15 = 4 days.
Question 4 (Analytical)
Which number is the odd one out? 121, 144, 169, 196, 210
- A) 144
- B) 169
- C) 196
- D) 210
Answer: D. 121, 144, 169 and 196 are the squares of 11, 12, 13 and 14. 210 is not a perfect square.
Question 5 (Analytical)
In a code, each letter is replaced by its position in the alphabet and the values are added, so CAT = 3 + 1 + 20 = 24. What is DOG in this code?
- A) 24
- B) 26
- C) 27
- D) 30
Answer: B. D = 4, O = 15, G = 7. 4 + 15 + 7 = 26.
Question 6 (Analytical)
In a non-leap year, 1 January is a Monday. What day of the week is 1 March?
- A) Wednesday
- B) Thursday
- C) Friday
- D) Saturday
Answer: B. From 1 January to 1 March is 31 + 28 = 59 days. 59 = 7 × 8 + 3, so 1 March is three days after Monday: Thursday.
Question 7 (Verbal)
Which part of the sentence contains an error?
"Each of the students (A) / have submitted (B) / their assignment (C) / on time. (D)"
- A) Each of the students
- B) have submitted
- C) their assignment
- D) on time
Answer: B. The subject is "each", which is singular, so the verb should be "has submitted".
Question 8 (Verbal)
Choose the word most nearly opposite in meaning to METICULOUS.
- A) Careful
- B) Careless
- C) Precise
- D) Thorough
Answer: B. Meticulous means showing great attention to detail. Careful, precise and thorough are close in meaning; careless is the opposite.

Preparing for the coding part
The coding problems in reports are typically at an easy-to-medium level: string manipulation, arrays, number logic (primes, digits, series), and occasionally simple sorting or searching. Three habits make the biggest difference:
- Read input exactly as specified. Many submissions fail on input format, not on logic.
- Get a correct brute-force solution in first. Partial or complete test-case passes on a simple approach beat an elegant solution that doesn't compile.
- Test edge cases before submitting: empty input, a single element, negative numbers, very large values.
Practise in the language you will choose on the day, using an online judge that reads from standard input.
Time management across three very different tasks
The Elite NTH assessment switches gears from multiple choice to free writing to coding. That switch costs time if you are not ready for it.
- In the aptitude part, do a fast first pass and skip anything that needs more than 90 seconds. Come back to it only if the section timer allows.
- In the essay, spend two minutes planning (position plus three points), most of the time writing, and the last two minutes re-reading.
- In coding, read both problems first and start with the one you are more confident about.
Common mistakes
- Ignoring eligibility details. The gap, backlog and three-month rules are enforced. Check them before you register, not after you clear the test.
- Writing a one-paragraph essay. It reads as unfinished. Use paragraphs.
- Submitting code without running the sample tests.
- Re-registering too soon. The 2023 notice allowed re-registration only after 90 days.
- Paying for a "guaranteed" test link or slot. Registration runs through official Wipro channels, and no genuine step in the process requires you to pay a middleman.
Preparing for the business discussion
Clearing the test gets you into the business discussion, which candidates describe as a mix of technical questions (your final-year project, one programming language in depth, basic DBMS and OOP) and HR questions (why Wipro, relocation, shifts). Prepare a two-minute explanation of your project: the problem, your part in it, the technology and what you would improve. The question bank in our Capgemini interview questions article overlaps a lot with what IT services interviewers ask freshers.
A three-week plan
Week 1: Diagnostic aptitude mock, then daily timed sets on your two weakest topics. Write two essays.
Week 2: One coding problem a day on strings and arrays, one essay every other day, and continued aptitude drills.
Week 3: Two or three full simulations: aptitude, essay and coding back to back in one sitting, so you are used to switching between them. For full-length timed sets with explanations, the assessment training test package covers numerical, verbal and logical reasoning.
If you are sitting several IT services tests this season, our guides to the TCS NQT and the HCLTech aptitude test explain how they differ from Wipro's.
Frequently Asked Questions
What role do you get through Wipro Elite NTH?
In the most recent Elite NTH notice we could verify, for the 2023 batch, the designation was Project Engineer. Confirm the role and compensation in the notice for your own batch, because Wipro publishes the terms per cycle.
How long is the Wipro Elite NTH online assessment?
The 2023 notice described an 80-minute online assessment testing verbal, analytical, quantitative and written communication skills, followed by coding. Durations can change between cycles, so check your test invitation for the current timings.
Can I apply for Elite NTH if I have a backlog?
In the 2023 cycle, one backlog was allowed at the time of the assessment, provided it was cleared by the end of the eighth semester. Rules like this are set per drive, so read the eligibility section of the current notice.
I took a Wipro test recently and failed. Can I apply again?
The 2023 notice made candidates who had taken part in any Wipro selection process in the previous three months ineligible, and allowed re-registration only after 90 days. Check the current notice for the cooling-off period that applies to you.
Is the essay in the Wipro test really scored?
Yes. Wipro lists written communication as one of the skills the online assessment tests. Treat the essay as a scored section: a clear structure, correct grammar and staying on topic matter more than fancy vocabulary.
