Accenture Assessment Test: Fresher Rounds and Practice

The Accenture assessment test for freshers in India is usually a proctored online cognitive and technical test, followed by a coding round and a spoken communication assessment, before a combined technical and HR interview. The exact order and timings change from drive to drive, so this guide sets out what Accenture states officially, what candidates consistently report, and eight practice questions in the style of the cognitive and technical section.

What the Accenture assessment is and who takes it

Accenture hires freshers in India in large numbers every year, mainly for Associate Software Engineer (ASE) and related technology roles, through on-campus drives, pooled campus drives and off-campus applications on its India campus portal. Almost every route starts with an online assessment. Your score there decides whether you move on, and candidate reports suggest it can also influence which role or track you are considered for.

Accenture's official recruitment page keeps the description short. It says some roles include an online activity, and that technical assessments are done online in a coding environment and test problem-solving, logical reasoning and applied technical knowledge. It also states three rules that matter for freshers:

  • Candidates in India can have only one active application at a time.
  • If you do not pass an assessment, you must wait at least 90 days before retaking the same assessment, and switching to another role that uses the same test does not reset this.
  • Nobody is ever required to pay to get a job at Accenture. Requests for "training fees" or "processing fees" are fraud.

Many candidates search for "Accenture SHL assessment". Accenture does not name the vendor behind its fresher test on its careers pages, and we have not found an official source linking the fresher assessment to SHL. The question types (English, reasoning, abstract figures, pseudocode) overlap with what SHL-style tests cover, which is probably why the term sticks. Our guide to numerical reasoning in SHL tests is useful background, but prepare for the content Accenture tests rather than for a brand name.

Rounds and format

The table below combines Accenture's official description with what candidates from recent drives report. Where something is not official, it is marked as a report.

Round What it covers Duration Source
Cognitive and technical assessment English ability, critical reasoning and problem solving, abstract reasoning; technical MCQs on pseudocode, common applications (MS Office), networking, security and cloud basics Around 90 minutes (reported) Candidate reports
Coding round Usually 2 problems: arrays, strings, simple logic; choice of languages such as C, C++, Java, Python Around 45 minutes (reported) Candidate reports; Accenture confirms coding assessments run in an online coding environment
Communication assessment Automated spoken English: reading aloud, sentence repetition, listening, short open answers Around 20–30 minutes (reported) Candidate reports
Interview Technical and HR questions about projects, fundamentals and motivation Usually 30–45 minutes (reported) Candidate reports

Some drives have merged or reordered rounds, and some candidates report two separate interview panels instead of one. Your invitation email from an @accenture.com address is the only reliable description of your own drive.

The cognitive section in more detail

This is where most candidates are filtered out. Reports describe four areas:

  1. English ability: grammar, sentence completion, error spotting and short reading passages.
  2. Critical reasoning and problem solving: syllogisms, conclusions from statements, arithmetic word problems.
  3. Abstract reasoning: figure series and odd-one-out puzzles, similar to the items in our abstract reasoning practice questions.
  4. Technical MCQs: pseudocode tracing, MS Office functions, and networking, security and cloud fundamentals.

Several candidates say most rejections came from unattempted questions rather than wrong ones. That fits with the reported absence of negative marking: if no penalty is stated on your instructions screen, leave nothing blank.

The communication assessment

This round surprises a lot of candidates because it is spoken, not written. You wear a headset, read sentences aloud, repeat what you hear and answer short prompts, and software scores pronunciation, fluency, grammar and comprehension. Some candidates say it felt similar to the Pearson Versant test, but Accenture does not confirm a vendor. Practical points:

  • Use a quiet room and a wired headset if you can. Background noise lowers automated scores.
  • Speak at a steady, normal pace. Rushing hurts fluency scores more than a mild accent does.
  • If you miss a sentence in a repetition task, say what you caught rather than staying silent.

Scoring and cut-offs

Accenture does not publish cut-off scores. Candidate reports from different drives describe sectional cut-offs, meaning you must reach a minimum in each section, not just overall. That changes how you should spend your time: a perfect score in English will not save you if you skip half the technical MCQs.

Results are typically shared by email within days, but this varies by drive. Any score, rank or "selection" message that does not come from an @accenture.com address should be treated as suspect.

Practice questions

These eight questions follow the style of the cognitive and technical section. Try each one in under a minute before reading the answer.

Question 1

Choose the correct option: "Neither the manager nor the team members ___ aware of the change in the release date."

A. is B. are C. was D. has been

Answer: B. With "neither ... nor", the verb agrees with the noun closest to it. "Team members" is plural, so "are" is correct.

Question 2

Statements: All cloud engineers in the Pune team are AWS certified. Ravi is not AWS certified.

Which conclusion follows?

A. Ravi is a cloud engineer in another team. B. Ravi is not a cloud engineer in the Pune team. C. Ravi will get AWS certified soon. D. Some cloud engineers in the Pune team are not certified.

Answer: B. If every cloud engineer in the Pune team is certified and Ravi is not certified, he cannot be one of them. A and C go beyond the statements, and D contradicts them.

Question 3

A figure series runs: shaded triangle, unshaded square, shaded pentagon, unshaded hexagon. What comes next?

A. Shaded heptagon B. Unshaded heptagon C. Shaded hexagon D. Unshaded octagon

Answer: A. Two rules run at once: the number of sides increases by one each step, and shading alternates. The fifth figure has seven sides and is shaded.

Question 4

What does this pseudocode print?

Integer a = 5, b = 3
for i = 1 to 3
    a = a + b
    b = a - b
end for
print a

A. 13 B. 21 C. 34 D. 18

Answer: B. After i = 1: a = 8, b = 5. After i = 2: a = 13, b = 8. After i = 3: a = 21, b = 13. The program prints 21.

Question 5

In which cloud service model does the customer manage the operating system, while the provider manages the physical servers?

A. SaaS B. PaaS C. IaaS D. FaaS

Answer: C. With Infrastructure as a Service you rent virtual machines and control the OS and everything above it. In PaaS and SaaS the provider also manages the OS.

Question 6

Anil can finish a task in 12 days and Bhavna can finish it in 18 days. How many days will they take working together?

A. 7.2 B. 7.5 C. 6 D. 15

Answer: A. Their combined rate is 1/12 + 1/18 = 3/36 + 2/36 = 5/36 of the task per day, so they need 36/5 = 7.2 days.

Question 7

What does this pseudocode print? (Division is integer division.)

Integer n = 4096, count = 0
while n > 0
    n = n / 10
    count = count + 1
end while
print count

A. 3 B. 4 C. 5 D. 6

Answer: B. n goes 4096 → 409 → 40 → 4 → 0, so the loop runs four times. The code counts digits.

Question 8

In Microsoft Excel, which function counts only the cells in a range that contain numbers?

A. COUNTA B. COUNT C. SUM D. COUNTBLANK

Answer: B. COUNT counts numeric cells. COUNTA counts every non-empty cell, and COUNTBLANK counts empty ones.

Strategy and time management

Work section by section against the cut-off. Because sectional cut-offs are reported, aim for a solid score in every area instead of a top score in your favourite one.

Answer everything. If the instructions do not mention a penalty, a guess costs nothing. Flag hard questions, make a quick guess, and come back if time allows and the platform lets you.

Trace pseudocode on paper. Write a small table with one column per variable and one row per loop pass, as in question 4. Doing it in your head is where most errors creep in.

Revise the boring technical basics. MS Office functions, OSI layers, common ports, IaaS/PaaS/SaaS and basic security terms (phishing, firewall, encryption) come up often and are quick marks once revised.

For the coding round, get a working solution for both problems first, then optimise. Test with edge cases such as an empty array, a single element and negative numbers before submitting.

Common mistakes

  • Treating the communication round as a formality. It is spoken and automated, and a noisy room or silence on a repetition task costs real marks.
  • Using a personal hotspot that drops. Proctored tests can flag or end a session after a disconnect. Use a stable connection and close other apps.
  • Applying twice. With the one-active-application rule in India, a second application can complicate your candidacy rather than double your chances.
  • Retaking too early. The 90-day rule applies to the assessment itself, so plan your attempt for when you are ready, not as a trial run.
  • Paying anyone. Accenture states that no one has to pay for employment there.

A two-week preparation plan

Days Focus
1–3 English grammar rules (subject-verb agreement, tenses, prepositions) and 20 reading questions a day
4–6 Critical reasoning and arithmetic: syllogisms, time and work, percentages, ratios
7–8 Abstract reasoning: figure series and odd-one-out, timed
9–10 Technical MCQs: pseudocode tracing, MS Office, networking, cloud and security basics
11–12 Coding: two easy-to-medium array and string problems a day in your chosen language
13 Communication practice: read news paragraphs aloud and record yourself
14 One full timed mock, then review every wrong or skipped item

You can find timed reasoning tests in our all test package or start with the free tests. Once you clear the online rounds, our Accenture interview questions guide covers the interview stage.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the Accenture assessment an SHL test?

Accenture’s own careers pages do not name a test vendor for the fresher assessment, so do not assume it is SHL. Candidates use “Accenture SHL assessment” as a search term because the format resembles other online aptitude tests. Prepare for the content, not the brand.

How long is the Accenture cognitive and technical assessment?

Candidate reports from recent drives describe a proctored online test of around 90 minutes. Accenture changes the format between drives, so the duration in your invitation email is the one that counts.

Is there negative marking in the Accenture assessment?

Several candidate reports say there is no negative marking but that sectional cut-offs apply. Accenture does not publish this officially, so read the instructions screen before you start. If no penalty is mentioned, answer every question.

How soon can I retake the Accenture assessment?

Accenture’s recruitment page says that if you do not pass an assessment, you must wait at least 90 days before taking the same assessment again, and applying for a different role that uses it does not get around this rule.

Does the communication assessment eliminate candidates?

Candidate reports disagree. Some say it was an elimination round, others say it was not. Treat it as an elimination round, because a weak spoken English score can also affect the role you are offered.
